The Centre for Research in Tourism (CRT) is a private sector not-for-profit research organization functioning exclusively in the tourism sector of Nepal. This specialized organization was created and registered with the government of Nepal in 2019 to address the long-felt need of an expert agency that engages in scientific research and studies in every important aspect of Nepal's overall tourism sector. Despite tourism being one of the most potential sectors of the Nepalese economy, it is undeniably under-represented both in the government's development priorities and public sector resource allocation practices for long. There exists very little understanding at the political level of the unique strength and opportunities of Nepal's tourism sector. This harsh reality inspired a small group of compatriot and passionate economists, development professionals and tourism sector experts to establish CRT.

CRT is committed to advocate, promote and guide, through scientific research on multiple facets, the planned development of the tourism sector. It is dedicated to examine critically various problems and prospects associated with this sector, and based on the evidences, recommend effective measures for its prudent management. By constantly disseminating its findings to a wide range of stakeholders at the local, national, regional and international levels, CRT eventually aims to see Nepal's rapid economic growth through the optimal utilization of the natural, cultural and human resources, and fullest exploitation of the vast opportunities in the tourism sector.

While the key targeted users of the CRT research are different levels of governments in Nepal, development partners, domestic tourism industry and professional communities within and outside the country; its direct or indirect economic beneficiaries include the local communities engaged in tourism, agriculture, horticulture, livestock, fishery, dairy, handicrafts and transportation enterprises in Nepal, particularly in its various tourism destinations.
